Job Description

The British High Commission in Abuja has the following vacancy in its Corporate Services:

 

Position: Senior LE I Corporate Services Manager

Fixed Term Contract (renewable)

 

General

 

The British High Commission (BHC) is recruiting a Corporate Services Manager to support the Head of Corporate Services as deputy in the provision of first class delivery of services to all sections of the BHC through strategic leadership and management of the day-to-day running of the busy Corporate Services (CS) of the BHC. This will include leading CS in HCS’s absence.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

 

  • Oversight leadership and motivation of a large group of teams, including through line management of Team Leaders, covering HR, Technical Works, IT, General Services, Transport and the High Commissioner’s Residences and staff in Abuja and Kaduna.

 Advising senior management on central and BHC change management programmes to improve service delivery while maximising efficiency savings; leading on a range of local CS policies; and ensuring implementation and dissemination of all.

 

  • Acting as main point of contact for UK-based staff on BHC and central staff policies, administrative and welfare matters relating to their posting. Management of UK-based personnel records and succession plans.

 

  • Assisting with finance integrity activities, and contribute to the overall organisational capability of BHC, including on staff management and engagement, and other wider corporate work of the BHC.

 

Qualities needed

 

Experience

 

The High Commission is looking for an experienced professional with senior level experience and knowledge across a range of corporate services disciplines. As a pre-requisite to be a success in this role, we seek evidence of:

 

  • Strong management of large teams; leadership; and team-working in a fast-paced environment;

  • Successfully improving delivery of corporate or administrative services; and/or corporate change management programmes; 

  • Understanding of basic principles of resource and financial management.

 

Previous experience of working in an office environment is important too. And some experience of working in an Embassy/High Commission or other International Organisation would be an advantage.

 

Skills

 

The successful candidate should have:

 

  • Proven ability as a self-starter and to work effectively with minimal supervision, with a commitment to customer service and a willingness to work additional hours as necessary;

  • A proactive and strategic approach to work, maintaining flexibility and initiative in performance;

  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to multi-task and manage their time effectively in order to meet tight deadlines;

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills;

  • Ability to work in diverse teams and with a wide range of people;

  • An excellent command of English oral and written communication;

  • Good keyboard skills, and essential familiarity with computers and software packages (notably MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

The successful candidate will benefit from a full training and induction programme on Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) CS policies and procedures for a few months before the current job holder leaves, as well as induction on the wider work of the BHC.

 

This is a full time position. BHC opening hours are from 8.00am – 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.00am – 1.00pm on Friday. The job will be graded LEI with a starting monthly gross salary of N 602,541 including allowances. Successful candidates who are not liable to pay Nigerian tax will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on the basic salary. The salary will be paid Naira.
