The incumbent will carry out the main tasks outlined below:

a) Provide guidance and support the implementation of specific Child Rights and Business (CRB) activities at country and regional level. These activities include training, review and technical advice on partnerships, support to key events, and development of relevant country level strategies. This will include travel to approximately six countries in ESAR and WCAR.

b) Identification and cultivation of partners for non-financial engagement, including specific development of six new partnerships and/or significant inputs on non-financial elements of regional partnerships.

c) Support the implementation of the UNICEF/Graça Machel Trust Partnership: Provide internal support to ensure the agreed engagements at regional and country level are well-executed, with defined outcomes. Prepare detailed reports and communication for the partnership, taking into account multi-stakeholder management.

d) Other duties. Other duties as required including assisting in the implementation of the regional work plan for the UNICEF ESA Public Private Partnerships team.

Payment Schedule

Payment is upon satisfactory completion of deliverables on a monthly basis.

Please note that the final remuneration will be negotiated by HR.

Desired competencies, technical background and experience

Advanced University degree in one of the following fields: communications, social sciences, marketing, public relations, business administration and management; A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree

Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible professional work experience in private sector engagement/fundraising, donor outreach and management, or project administration in partnerships, preferably with some at the international level.

Solid understanding of child rights, with a strong preference for experience in Child Rights and Business or Corporate Social Responsibility

Some experience in Africa and/or good knowledge of African influencers and issues

Strong planning/organizing, and networking/relating skills

Strong writing skills, with strong preference for knowledge and experience in writing for UNICEF and private and public sector audiences.

Highest-level communication skills, including engaging and informative formal public speaking.

Able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment.

Demonstrates and shares detailed technical knowledge and expertise.

Administrative issues

Travel required (approximately 4 days each) to approximately six countries throughout Eastern and Southern Africa and Western and Central Africa. Example countries below:

Tanzania, Mozambique, Angola, South Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Cote d’Ivoire.


As per UNICEF DFAM policy, payment is made against approved deliverables. No advance payment is allowed unless in exceptional circumstances against bank guarantee, subject to a maximum of 30 per cent of the total contract value in cases where advance purchases, for example for supplies or travel, may be necessary”.

The candidate selected will be governed by and subject to UNICEF’s General Terms and Conditions for individual contracts. The Consultant may not publish or disseminate reports, data collection tools, collected data or any other documents produced from this Consultancy without the permission of and acknowledgement of UNICEF.

The applicant should quote an all-inclusive fee compromised of remuneration, air travel to Nairobi if applicable, twenty-four working days travel within Africa (as above), and living expenses.
