Job Description

The British High Commission in Abuja has the following vacancy in its Corporate Services:

 

Position: LE I Corporate Services Officer fixed term contract (renewable)

 

General

 

The British High Commission is recruiting a Corporate Services Officer to work in its Corporate Services.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties, including supervision and associated line management of two busy teams:

  • Compliance: Assurance on all matters of compliance to senior management of BHC Abuja and British Deputy High Commission (BDHC) Lagos, ensuring all Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) practices and procedures are met; liaison with relevant FCO departments on compliance issues; adhoc finance integrity activities; undertake initial investigations into allegations/suspicions of financial malpractice, and/or fraudulent activity, and adhoc issues as precursor to any disciplinary/grievance procedures in accordance with FCO and BHC/BDHC procedures.

 

  • Estate Management: Strategic management of BHC Abuja estate, including provision of services to three office sites and 72 units of residential accommodation, through supervision of the Accommodation/Furnishings Team and their role with office and residential leases, payments, valuations and records; negotiating with external parties and liaising with relevant FCO departments on office and residential policy; liaison with Technical Works Group (TWG) on maintenance programmes.

 

  • Travel: Supervision of the Travel Team, including proactive identification of optimal value for money opportunities in SLAs/contracts with travel organisations and hotels.

  • Health and Safety: Lead on and coordination of BHC Abuja Health and Safety policy and its implementation, liaising with BHC sections on areas specifically related to their areas of expertise.

 

  • Environment: Point of contact on BHC Abuja and BDHC Lagos’s environmental footprint/impact and sustainable issues in line with FCO policy and initiatives, promoting good practice and raising staff and families awareness on sustainable operations across the estate, including energy saving tips, ‘”greener” procurement methodologies, more efficient estates maintenance works, low carbon solutions to day-to-day operations etc.

 

Qualities needed

 

The High Commission is looking for someone with previous logistics and compliance experience, who is a self-starter with proven ability to work effectively without the need for constant supervision, and a proactive and strategic approach to work, maintaining flexibility and initiative in performance.

 

The successful candidate must possess an excellent command of English oral and written communication, excellent organisational skills and the ability to multi-task and manage their time effectively. A commitment to customer service, experience of managing staff, strong interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people is necessary.

 

Previous experience of working in an office environment is important too. Candidates must have good keyboard skills, and familiarity with computers and software packages (notably MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is essential.

 

This is a full time position. BHC opening hours are from 8.00am – 4.00pm, Monday to Thursday and 8.00am – 1.00pm on Friday. The job will be graded LEI with a starting monthly gross salary of N 543,002 including allowances. Successful candidates who are not liable to pay Nigerian tax will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on the basic salary. The salary will be paid Naira.
